Executive Directors
Jason Wise - President
Jason Wise is an enthusiastic cyclist with a deep passion for biking that began in the early 2000s and spans various types of bikes, including mountain biking. He became involved with trail building at O'Bannon Woods State Park, where he played a key role in establishing the Groupcamp trail and expanding the local biking community. With the help of dedicated volunteers, Jason has contributed to the development of a well-regarded trail system and an annual bike festival. As he steps into the role of HMBA president, his goals include enhancing the organization's website, improving communication, boosting membership, and supporting trail builders, all while continuing the legacy of his predecessor, Paul Arlinghaus. Jason is eager to lead HMBA into its next chapter and work with the team to achieve these objectives.
Jason Pruitt - Vice President
Jason Pruitt from the Tippecanoe Mountain Bike Association is the new Vice President for the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (HMBA). He has been involved with HMBA since its inception. Over the years, Pruitt has competed in various off-road events across the country, including cross-country races, 6, 12, and 24-hour races, 100-mile endurance races, and occasional alley cat races. As he shifted focus from racing, he concentrated on building strong relationships with local municipalities to develop a positive and growing trail system in collaboration with TMBA members. Pruitt takes pride in the progress made in natural surface off-road trails statewide and is eager to continue advancing HMBA's momentum.
Kerry Balding - Secretary
Kerry Balding has served as the HMBA Treasurer since 2019. She first discovered her passion for mountain biking at Town Run in the late 2000s, riding one of her daughter's bikes, and continues to consider TRTP one of her favorite places to ride. In addition to mountain biking, Balding enjoys road and gravel biking and has a particular fondness for her e-bike. She manages a veterinary practice and takes great pleasure in helping both people and animals. Outside of her professional life, she works as a USAC official across various disciplines, spends time with her husband, the J’s Bikes Women’s Team, the Indy Divas group, and supports her youngest child in collegiate varsity cycling. A few non-cycling interests include crocheting, which she taught herself on Christmas Eve 2023, enjoying beer, and loving cats. Balding is excited to see the new accomplishments HMBA will achieve in this next chapter.
Andrew McMullan - Treasurer
Andrew McMullan is an HMBA board member and the president of the Town Run Advisory Council. He was reintroduced to HMBA when he and his wife moved back from California in 2011 to start a family, with Town Run becoming his local trail. McMullan began volunteering at trail workdays and was impressed by the efforts of HMBA and its volunteers across the state. Although the region lacks mountains, he believes in the passion and desire to make the most of what is available. As a proud father of three, McMullan and his wife are often seen chasing their kids around and involving them in trail workdays. They aim to instill a love of the outdoors and appreciation for natural resources in their children, hoping to inspire the same in other Hoosiers. McMullan is committed to advancing outdoor recreation in Indianapolis and continuing to build on the foundation laid by others.
Directors At-Large
Sandra Gilmore - OWMB
Sandra Gilmore from Milltown, Indiana, is a passionate cyclist whose home trails are at O’Bannon Woods State Park. Although she enjoyed biking as a child, she paused when she got her license but returned to cycling in 2011, starting with road biking and soon discovering mountain biking. Since then, she has also embraced gravel biking, downhill biking, and e-biking. Gilmore is a regular volunteer at O’Bannon Woods and enjoys other outdoor activities such as running, hiking, and mushroom hunting. Her favorite mountain biking destinations are Moab, UT, and Crested Butte, CO. Having ridden bikes in 44 states, she is just six states away from completing her goal of biking in all 50 states. She looks forward to representing the OWMB chapter on the HMBA board.
Ryan Hasting - TMBA
Ryan Hastings began mountain biking around 2012 and quickly became involved with HMBA after his first ride at Fort Ben. He attended work sessions at Fort Ben and Brown County, participated in local group rides, and joined the HMBA. As the local scene grew and TMBA formed, Hastings engaged in work sessions and joined the board as secretary. With the reorganization of HMBA, he now represents TMBA on the HMBA board. He is passionate about attracting new riders to group rides to build a supportive community and enhance membership. Hastings lives and works remotely in a wooded area and has informally run a stray animal sanctuary, which once included a visiting peacock.
Adam Fox - INDY SWW
Adam Fox is a board member-at-large for the Indy HMBA chapter, representing Southwestway Park. He has been an active HMBA member for several years and has volunteered at Southwestway for the past five years, working with the original Trail Bum, David Gardner. Southwestway is his home park and one of his favorite places to ride, thanks to its varied trails and the strong friendships he has made there. Adam's love for cycling began at a young age and has continued throughout his life. He enjoys road cycling, mountain biking, and is looking forward to trying gravel cycling. He participated in DINO for several years as a Clydesdale with the Gray Goat mountain bike team. Adam can often be found hanging on for dear life, falling off the back of a peloton, or begging friends for a few more minutes of recovery at the top of a Brown County climb, but his love for riding with friends far outweighs the challenge of catching his breath!
Patrick Schafer - HMBA
Patrick is an active mountain biker who fell deep into the hobby during COVID. In the last two years he has accumulated 6,700+ miles, over 431,000ft of elevation gain, 5 enduro podiums, and a 12 hour pro endurance race podium; he placed second overall in the 2023 Enduro Southeast series in CAT 2. He’s also newly into the adventure of road biking, which he claims is for mountain bike cross training.
Recreational access for trail users is highly important to him as it allows for continued time spent outdoors and enables these valuable community assets (trails) that bring people together through a common interest. He is active around the Southern Indiana region and can often be found volunteering at O’Bannon Woods. Patrick looks forward to assisting with the continued growth of mountain biking in Indiana. His favorite place to ride is Pisgah National Forest, NC (WNC area), Bend, OR, and realistically anywhere with good singletrack. He is lucky that his wife (Grace) and dog (Phil Collins) support his hobby.
Jason HIlt - INDY Fort Ben
Jason Hilt began mountain biking in 2001 at Town Run Trail Park. By 2003, he became involved with HMBA, learning trail maintenance to give back to the trail he loved. Over the years, he has contributed to building trails at Brown County, Crooked Creek, Versailles, Nebo Ridge, and Fort Ben. He also led the project to construct the wood-banked turn at Town Run with the help of the Boy Scouts. As Fort Ben opened, Jason started riding there more frequently and is now the HMBA Trail Lead at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park. He looks forward to serving as the HMBA representative for the trails at Fort Ben.
Brad Wetnight - HMBA
Brad Wetnight rediscovered his love for cycling as an adult in 2011 after being an avid swimmer and childhood cyclist. He began racing in local triathlons and later transitioned to mountain biking, where he competed in DINO's Clydesdale category. His dedication to burritos and triathlon led to a 3rd place finish in the USAT Clydesdale Sprint National Championship. After achieving this goal, he shifted his focus from competitive training to more casual riding and trail work. Joining Salesforce in 2016, he became involved in non-profit work, organizing volunteer efforts and eventually joining the HMBA advisory board. Brad then helped maintain the HMBA website and facilitated the transition away from IMBA. Though he doesn't hit the trails as often as he'd like, he enjoys riding at local parks and remains committed to supporting HMBA in any way he can.
